If our history with hawks began in near-tragedy, this winter it’s ending in farce. Every day the predators get bolder and much more brazen. The other night I opened the door and startled an owl on the front lawn. What’s next, a raccoon disguised as the pizza delivery guy?

Wow! Just wow! And that guy looked hungry. Maybe invest in some Kevlar vests for the ducks. What What the heck scares away raptors? Lions? 🙂
And don’t say coyotes because they may send a few over. *sigh*
Dig the music! Creates drama…
Melodrama, even. 😉
Oh dear piggy heavens! That’s like me answering the door to the big bad wolf – squeals and runs to hide! XOXO – Bacon
And it never stops! Just after I posted the video, I went to let the ducks out of the garage and as soon as we walked into the backyard, I noticed the hawk flying into the trees. We skedaddled back the garage toot sweet!!! Is it spring yet?!!!!
Amen for that! I *need* spring. I’m so ready to come out of hibernation. You need for this little piggy to come up there and beat up that dumb old hawk dude? Snorts. Let me at ’em! I’ll show them who not to mess with. XOXO – Bacon
Thx for the offer, Bacon! But didn’t you also think, “aw, he’s so cute!” I mean, for like a second, at least?
Not if that big bad hawk is messing with my furry friends. He can be cute when he’s not touching. Snorts. XOXO – Bacon
That’s a deal! 🙂
Great video! I never have my camera ready. I would think the ducks would be too big for him.
I know, right? But we know from experience that they will try if they’re hungry enough. And this year, everything’s hungry enough out there.
“Shoo” isn’t cutting it. 🙂
No doubt! 🙂
Shoe??????? >
I don’t think I could throw one that far. 😉 (It looks close but I used a very long lens.)
It looks like a red shouldered hawk, no matter what it is, the video was great, but I doubt that the ducks like the hawk around.
I don’t like the hawk around either! And now s/he practically lives here!!! PS, I sure hope it’s not a red-shouldered, aren’t they even bigger than a Cooper’s? Actually, I went to the Cornell site and meticulously compared by still photos of this particular hawk with both the Cooper’s and the Sharp-Shinned (slightly smaller, notoriously difficult to ID). Still not entirely sure what it is except HUNGRY! 😉
lol! That video is funny! The coyotes have been howling and yipping like cray here and the hawks are always circling. All this deep snow must be making it challenging for them, ugh
You get coyotes up there? Wow!
Yes, they ,ve come right into my driveway. We have bears too.
Hawks & coyotes & bears, oh my!!! 😉
OH MY GOODNESS!!!! Crazy + love the video:-) They are beautiful though:-)
Thanks!!! Robbie, I knew you would see how lovely they are despite their unfortunate tendency to go after my poor ducks. What with all my scary stories about hawks, I thought it would be amusing/confounding to see just how small and rather adorable they look–when not in attack mode, that is. *sigh* Is it spring yet????
no it is not spring yet-I was throwing salt so I would not die getting out to my car today! Please spring come soon–
Cute like a tiger at the zoo! But they are not behind bars-LOL
😀 Be safe out there!!! PS, IT’S SNOWING AGAIN MAKE IT STOP!!!!!!!
It is melting here, so hold on…the big melt is coming your way!!!
Got rain boots ready to go! Thanks for the heads up! (Feets up?)
This is great. I love the soundtrack ;p I don’t know if I told you already but an owl nabbed my sister’s chicken. Luckily they heard the ruckus and rescued her. Afterward, the owl sat on a branch just outside their window and started at my sister, husband and kids for 20 minutes.
OMG! They are relentless!!! (And hungry…) Thx for the compliment. At first I didn’t like iMovie but I’m getting to appreciate its virtues, including a pretty cool sfx toolkit. Fonts for the ear, as it were. 😉
Hey Lori,
Even I — in my flu-ridden state — could probably do a bigger SHOO than that!
Thanks for this, Lori. And for making me smile.
Albeit a tad grimly.
A rabbit ran over my foot one day as I slouched in my chair on the verandah, but I’ve never seen a hawk that close.
Oh no! Get well soonest!!! Spring is coming, promise! Surely you will be out on that verandah any day now, watching carefully for errant rabbits, though. 😉
