We also loved the feral chickens in Hawaii! They were so fun to watch, and sometimes sad (when we saw a mama chicken with only one chick, we knew it was because the others had met a bad end). Some islands had feral cats. But there were rarely large colonies of feral cats and chickens on the same island, for obvious reasons!
We were on Oahu but I read about the other islands and their situations, too. I know they don’t want to encourage any more feral cats–they’ve already got their hands full with introduced species, like much of the world, come to think of it! Have you read Elizabeth Kolbert’s “The Sixth Extinction”? Fascinating and troubling and definitely worth a look if you have the time. Thanks for commenting!!!
I have not read it, but I will take a look!
I never would have thought about chickens in Hawaii if it hadn’t been for this video. Thanks for the heads up.
Made me want to get chickens, too, but I think I’ll have to wait for a “real” farm before that happens! 🙂

That’s a telephoto shot–kept my distance!!! 🙂
Love them! XOXO – Bacon
Cluck, cluck! (That means “thanks!”)
