Is broom corn just decorative or can you eat it?
As far as I know, no. It’s actually a sorghum and the variety I grew is intended for ornamental uses. I think some people give the seeds to wild birds but so far, no birds have been interested in our plants which sorta tells me something. (The goldfinches were all over the sunflowers, for example.) Will definitely use the stalks for broom-making, tho! It’s totally cool–like having a “tool” grow from the ground. Now if they could only grow toasters. 😉
